Should You Buy an External Monitor Yet
External monitors can improve confidence and control, but they also add weight, power needs, and more moving parts. They make sense later than many creators assume.

An external monitor looks like a serious upgrade because it makes the camera rig feel more complete. But it is not always the next useful buy.
When it helps
A monitor becomes more valuable when:
- critical framing is harder to trust
- solo focus checking is difficult
- client work requires more confidence on set
- you already use the camera heavily
When it is early
If the bigger issue is publishing consistency, lighting, or audio, the monitor may not move the outcome enough yet.
The bottom line
Buy the monitor when visibility is already a repeated problem. Otherwise, another part of the setup probably deserves priority first.
